Wellness is my primary KPI

It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks of running a business, but it's important to remember that prioritizing your wellness is critical to your success.

Running a creative business can be incredibly fulfilling, but it can also be incredibly demanding.

As someone who runs a creative business, you know all too well the pressure of constantly being “on” and delivering high-quality work on tight deadlines.

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks of running a business, but it’s important to remember that prioritizing your wellness is critical to your success.

Why is prioritizing your wellness so important as a creative business owner? Simply put, when you’re firing on all cylinders, you’re better equipped to do your best creative work. When you’re feeling energized, relaxed, and inspired, you’re more likely to come up with innovative ideas, tackle complex problems, and deliver exceptional work for your clients. On the other hand, when you’re feeling burnt out, stressed out, or overwhelmed, your creativity and productivity can suffer.

One way to prioritize your wellness is by taking care of your physical health. For example, I get my nails done fortnightly, book in a massage at least monthly, and aim for about 4/5 1 hour walks a week (with a podcast!). Not only do these activities feel good, but they also have real benefits for your health and wellbeing. Massages, for instance, can help reduce stress, alleviate muscle tension, and improve circulation. When your body feels good, your mind is more likely to follow suit.

In addition to taking care of your physical health, it’s also important to prioritize your mental and emotional health. This can mean different things for different people, but I love to include a meditation practice, journalling and definitely time away from my desk.

Another way to prioritize your wellness is by ensuring that you’re not overworking yourself. Charging a premium for your work allows you to take on a manageable workload and avoid burning out. It’s important to set boundaries around your work and make time for rest and relaxation. This might mean scheduling in time away from the desk, taking regular breaks throughout the day, or even booking a weekend away to recharge your batteries.

Prioritizing your wellness is not only good for you personally, but it’s also good for your business.

By taking care of your physical, mental, and emotional health, setting boundaries around your work, and making time for rest and relaxation, you can ensure that you’re consistently doing your best creative work.

So the next time you’re feeling tempted to work through lunch or burn the midnight oil, remember that taking care of yourself is a key ingredient for your success.
